Boron doesn't work great on QiYi plastic ):
But it does work on certain cubes! Once the Weilong GTS V2 releases, I will try to release Boron treated cubes. The decision is all up to MoYu, and they have said it will release in Spring of 2017 or later.
I showed a boron-treated cube to some really really cool cubists such as TPC, Derpy, Hashtag Cuber, Cubingwithmeki, Patrick Ponce, Sam Myung, Eric Zhao, Rockin' Cuber, and more!
I ask them how fast they are, and if they can feel anything different about the plastic, as well as any cubes they can compare it to.
Darn, I thought I had one with Dana, but it wasn't on my phone!
She got FWR 3x3 single at this comp!
Also, shout out to Cubingwithmeki, he gave me an OP Dayan so that I could base project Boron-22 off of it's feel!
More info: Project Boron-22 involves a multi-step boron treatment, which uses a multi-catalyst-activated boron compound to destroy all of the double bonds on the plastic. The double bonds are what make the plastic stiff, tough, and rigid. The solvent system was also selectively formulated at Cubicle Labs to work with cube plastic without dissolving or swelling the original pieces. (VERY DIFFICULT)
By selectively destroying just enough of the double bonds to produce a soft, smooth, buttery cubefeel, we can make a better speedcube!
The final step of the process quenches and neutralises the active boron compound into harmless boric acid, which is cleaned off of the plastic to produce a harmless, completely safe product for everyone!
