*Progress and Protection: Intersectional Vigilance and Justice in Research and Advocacy*
As we progress, who do we fail to protect? Drawing on personal experiences as a Black queer immigrant and a public health physician (in training), Dr. Olarewaju will challenge the superficial narratives of diversity and inclusion that often perpetuate systemic inequalities in health education and research. This session will emphasize the importance of moving beyond mere representation to actively dismantling the structural barriers to health that continue to marginalize 2S/LGBTQIA+ individuals, particularly those from racialized communities. We will also explore the need for an intersectional approach to our advocacy, especially in the face of potential political shifts in Canada. Attendees will be urged to embrace a more radical vision of justice that not only protects the gains made but also creates meaningful opportunities for marginalized voices to shape the future of healthcare and research.
