Our Sunday Service: August 31st
Summary:
One of the greatest tools for sustaining community is loving accountability. It is the willingness and ability to speak truth to power, stand firm in our convictions, and ask others to join us in that space–especially when it’s uncomfortable.
We are again living in an American moment where many communities have framed blind obedience to a would-be dictator as “loyalty” and white supremacist-patriarchy as natural and inevitable. This is not the first time nor will it be the last.
James Baldwin notes that while “everything that is faced can’t be changed, nothing can be changed until it is faced.” Once again, progressives have an opportunity to wrest the national conversation away from those who’d see this country remain an oversized Mar-a-Lago by reminding ourselves and each other that greatness is achieved by support, critique, and growth.
While progressives have a long history of pushing America to be closer to its highest self, there’s always more space for growth, strategy, and love.
