Fire and food are my best friends out here. ASMR sounds of fire crackling, birds, and crickets at night is so relaxing. As the sun set I snacked on roasted mussels I gathered earlier on the coast. I then filled my pot with water from the stream, washed my face before getting ready for bed. I rolled out my tule mat and snacked on dried prickly pear skins that had been on a drying rack hanging from the roof. The full harvest moon cast light over the landscape as the fire burned out and I put white sage leaves in the pot of water and let it cook in the hot coals during the night. In the morning I drank the strong tea, shaped the ends of the prongs of my fruit picker tool, and went out to gather prickly pears nearby. I quickly filled the basket with juicy yellow fruit and took it back to my hut. I used the flames of the fire to burn off the tiny glochids to make them safe to handle and eat. This species of prickly pear have no thorns, just glochids which burn off easily. They taste sweet and crisp, and have less seeds than other species I gather in this area.
