Normal Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh are inherently weaker than Effect Monsters, which is an unfortunate truth that’s plagued these amber-bordered cards ever since the game’s origins, because no matter what, if you’re given the choice between two monsters with the same stats, type and attribute, with the only difference being that one has some kind of positive effect, you’re going to go with the effect monster every time.

As a result, there have been several attempts over the course of the game’s lifespan to turn these beige bricks into the behemoth boss monsters, and this recent engine might just be the thing that allows for them to live up to promises within their flavor text
