WARNING: this vid shows the complete process of slaughtering and dressing a piglet for roasting. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

Refrigeration is not available here so they only kill what they need to eat for a day or two. Anything larger than a piglet would go to waste. An adult sow produces about 40 piglets a year. Much like keeping a chicken for the eggs. Adult pigs are only butchered for special occasions.

Killing, prepping, and cooking a pig. This family was nice enough to let my brother film how they prepare their meals. No running water, no power, on a dirt floor, over a wood fire. This is a daily routine. With no way of refrigerating meat, only what can be eaten is slaughtered and cooked, such as a little piglet. The average pig killed for a small family is between 10 and 20lbs. The little pig killed here, along with a few coconuts, is enough to feed about 5 people. These are the realities of subsistence living.

This footage was provided by my brother while overseas.
