Practice make the saddle and whip and tongue grafts perfect. Both grafts are suitable for stock and scion of similar diameter, I prefer the saddle and as it works so well for me I don't use the whip and tongue, but I have used it successfully in the past and show it here as someone asked.
Where the stock is thicker a cleft or rind graft are necessary. I will demonstrate this in the field when I do a bit of grafting in April.
PS anyone making an S&M joke about whip and tongue will be banned!
