The piano duo of Arthur Gold and Robert Fizdale visited Europe in 1948, and with a letter of introduction met Tailleferre who introduced them to Poulenc and Auric. Poulenc wrote his 2 piano sonata for the “the Boyz” in 1953; one of his most ambitious scores, large scale, serious and demanding. It opens with bell like sonorities; is this Poulenc or Messiaen?
I. Prologue. Extremement lent et calme
II. Allegro molto. Très rythmé, 6:45
III. Andante lyrico. Lentement 13:34
IV. Epilogue. Allegro giocoso 20:13
