A Neutral Density (ND) filter acts like sunglasses for your camera. It reduces the amount of light entering the lens without changing the color of the scene.
By blocking light, it allows photographers and filmmakers to use wider apertures or slower shutter speeds in bright conditions, enabling
- motion blur,
- shallow depth of field, and
- proper exposure.
A circular polarizer (CPL) filter
- removes glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces (sun glare reflecting off water, ice, or foliage),
- helps boost color saturation, and
- Reduces atmospheric haze to see cloud definition, boost the color of blue skies, and improve the definition of distant objects.
The variable ND filter has five selectable settings from ND 2 through 32
Set ND General Use
1 2 Heavy overcast/dawn/twilight
2 4 Overcast/Shaded areas
3 8 Cloudy
4 16 Partly cloudy
5 32 Bright and sunny
The CPL filter can also be adjusted depending on the direction of reflected light. But for a moving drone looking down from above, it may be best to keep it at horizontal setting (tick pointed at either CPL or opposite tick mark)
Both filters are easily attached to the drone by attaching its connection clips to the camera vent slots, and lowering the filter over the lens until it snaps in place.
