MarkPMus | Post Lockdown Hastings Part 2 #MarkPMus @MarkPMus | Uploaded 3 years ago | Updated February 06 2023
In this, the second instalment of my "Post-Lockdown Hastings" project, I've tried to convey the gradual lifting of restrictions, although of course after Christmas 2020 we had to go into full-lockdown again. So this part of the project represents the time period from approximately September 2020 to June 2021 - with a gap in between! As in Part 1, I've used many objects - vehicle doors, railings, signs etc - to illustrate loneliness. I've also used more subtle cues - the people outside a café in St Leonards - only one of whom is engaging with the photographer. The doll on the lamp post and the gentleman across the street on the step are really aspects of the same photograph. Coming out of lockdown, emerging into society is difficult. What do you say to people when you've been away from them for so long? Carrying on with our relationships from where we left off in 2019 is difficult for the best of us! I hope this project resonates with people everywhere, and a big thank you to all those who - knowingly or unknowingly - took part.
