Yeah. The camera has been used in so many circumstances where people have been looked at or places have been looked at or subjects have been looked at. But I think what I’m trying to do with the camera is show that aspect of the camera, but also another way of looking, which is looking with. But that’s not my interest just to express what’s inside of me.
I’m more interested in the unfolding of things and what happens when I’m in relation to a place or people, you know, to everything, to everything that’s around. And then I feel alive. Then I feel like there’s life in the work.
I was influenced by Korean mask dramas. The Talchum tradition. It’s a way to kind of speak back to social power and to satirize. Time is one of my major preoccupations. Duration is what gives depth to something. That’s what I try to do in my work: try to touch different kinds of time.
For me, I like to think of time more as vertical. The past and the present and the future. They coexist. When we think about the climate disasters, we know the future is already here.
Yeah. Yeah. Beautiful. Chin up a tiny bit. Yeah, that’s good. Move there a little bit.
But there’s always so much joy. And I think that joy is in the active and the generative part that comes into a kind of poetics, and then the making of it and also the relationships. That’s been one of the most beautiful things about my practice: that I learn, but not learn in terms of trying to extract the story.
It just unfolds into a being in relation to each other with respect and reciprocity.
