Pops 2019: Chinese Pops

This medley, which DPops performed at ACSSY’s Spring Festival Gala two weeks ago celebrating the Chinese New Year, walks you through some classics as well as recent hits across the Greater China region. First up, we have the opening theme from “Xin Wen Lian Bo”, one of the oldest-running daily news program from China Central Television. Then, Jay Chou’s classic “Blue and White Porcelain” is played before we jump into Phoenix Legends’ “The Coolest Ethnic Trend”, which celebrates the diversity and the culture of China’s many ethnic groups. Then, we slow down to perform Yoyo Sham’s “Chasing the Light”, a theme song of a movie about a girl’s crush and high school love. The upbeat song “Calorie” by the rising pop group Rocket Girls 101 is next, satirizing the current culture of fitness in China. We then play a heartbreaking love song, “Liang Liang” from one of the most popular Chinese TV costume drama, Eternal Love, that describes the forbidden love between mortals and gods. Next is the theme song from Journey to the West, one of
the earliest modern TV shows portraying one of the three famous Chinese epics of the same name. Finally, after a traditional DPops build-upTM, we play the hit Chinese pop song “Little Apple,” which the creators, Chopsticks Brothers, aimed to rival Psy’s “Gangnam Style” but ultimately failed short.
