Pope Leo has left the Vatican to celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Castel Gandolfo. There, he will celebrate at the Church of St. Thomas of Villanova. The Ferragosto holiday, celebrated on the same day as the solemnity, traces its beginnings to the Roman Empire and was later merged with the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary. Pope Leo and many Italians take part in this public holiday alongside the Assumption. EWTN News' Brian Schumacher has more.
