Most contractors think federal work means hard-hat construction. New buildings. Roofs. Concrete. Big projects with big drawings.
That's a tiny slice of what the federal government actually buys.
One of our guys just got awarded $110,000 to do pool maintenance. Pool. Maintenance. Not a new pool. Not a renovation. Just keeping the water clean and the equipment running at a federal facility.
Here's the lesson: the feds spend an absurd amount of money on recurring services and small maintenance work that nobody is paying attention to. Pool care. HVAC filter swaps. Lawn cutting. Pressure washing. Pest control. Parking lot striping. Tree trimming. Generator testing. The list is endless.
And because most of the "GovCon gurus" out there are telling people to chase million-dollar primes or hunt set-asides for IT and staffing, this whole lane sits there with way less competition than it should.
These jobs are usually RFQs, not RFPs. That means simpler pricing, faster turnaround, less paperwork, and often no bonding headache. They're the perfect entry point for a contractor who wants to build a track record without betting the farm on one big shot.
If you've got a service business — or you know how to manage subs who do — you're already qualified to chase this kind of work. You just don't know where to look or how to price it so you actually make money.
That's what we fix.
