Polish police have detained a man accused of verbally abusing Ukrainian teenage girls in an incident captured on video and widely shared on social media.
In the footage, the man can be heard calling the girls “Ukrainian wh*res,” telling them to “go back to Ukraine” and claiming they had “grown up on our money.” He also said he hoped Ukrainians would soon be “kicked out” of Poland.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called for an “appropriate response” to the man’s behavior.
“The ‘hero’ on the Polish bus was verbally ‘fighting’ children and women. It doesn’t take much intelligence or courage to do that,” Sybiha said.
He also urged some Polish politicians to stop fueling hatred toward Ukraine and Ukrainians, warning that such rhetoric contributes to anti-Ukrainian sentiment in Polish society.
Police said the suspect had been detained and taken to a police station, where investigative procedures are underway.
