A Prince George's County officer involved in a fatal shooting in early February just seconds after exiting his vehicle will not be facing charges, Maryland's Attorney General announced Tuesday.

A violent video released in early 2024 showed Officer Braxton Shelton and other officers responding to a reported break-in at the Windham Creek Apartments on Suitland Road. Not long after, 31-year-old Melvin Jay was shot and pronounced dead.
