This is an inversion drill. Initially pole vault drills are best to be done using a straight pole to help to learn to move the pole forwards and swing on a straight pole before bending.
In this drill the athlete is looking to hit the same take off position as previous drills and kick the left leg into inversion which is why the left leg is held back at take off all the way through so that it can be used as a pendulum. Fast right arm; kick; swing; invert.
