We went to the arctic to look for polar bears and not only found them, but they sometimes walked across the ice to find us, making for some great close up encounters. The ice seemed to be disappearing earlier this summer than in past years, which means scenes like these, seen from the deck of the Lindblad Expedition ship the National Geographic Explorer, may become rarer if the planet continues warming at the current rate.
