Jester Hairston was the oldest actor in a weekly sitcom when he was one of the stars of the TV show Amen. Being an African American TV star was a long way from his early days in Hollywood when he said blacks weren't even allowed to sit in a good section of a movie theater. Hairston talked about the changes he had seen in Hollywood in this interview I did with him for the Today Show. Fortunately things have changed even more for black actors since I did this interview in the late 80's.
