After receiving everything he needs to start his journey in proper, Brendan and his Treecko make their way to Petalburg City, where the boy's father, Norman, stands at the entrance of the Gym. He appears to be amazed that his son has arrived on his own but is even more so to find that he has a Pokémon of his own. However, this moment is cut short by the arrival of a young boy named Wally. He is going to stay with relatives in Verdanturf Town, and wants to take a Pokémon along with him, but he does not know how to catch a Pokémon. As such, the Gym Leader loans him one of his own Pokémon to use to catch a Pokémon out on Route 102. The first Pokémon that they find is the Feeling Pokémon Ralts!
