I woke up this morning, and the first thing I noticed is that Gumbino uploaded a speedrun competition where the winner gets $200.
I'm very confident that I will not even get within top 100, but I might as well make an effort.
This is only one of my first good runs I've decided to upload. WR as of now is roughly 7.2, as far as I know of.

For those unaware (because a lot of people Ive talked to seemed to be surprised), yes, Resident Evil 8 is able to be played on mobile (and basically all the other RE Engine RE games (except RE9, as of right now)).
More specifically, they are available to be played on iPhone 15 and newer, as one of the major selling point was the iPhone 15s A17 chip being powerful enough to play Resident Evil games (and Death Stranding, but nobody cares about that one).
Since I decided to cave and buy an iPhone for VTubing, I decided Id also be the first to do an RE speedrun on mobile. As far as Im aware, there has never been an iOS speedrun for RE8, so this seems to be a first, from everything that I and others have seen.
I still use a Pixel with GrapheneOS, btw. I just use the iPhone for streaming. Fuck Apple!!!!
As for information on the run itself:
One of the first problems is that RE8 speedruns are tied to IGT, and usually require you to play deathless. The reason for this is because moderators use the timer that is displayed in the pause menu as reference to see if you are doing a continuous playthrough.
Unfortunately, iPhones are not strong enough to play the entire game in one go (at least for my iPhone (iPhone Air)), therefore, the game crashes A LOT!
The game crashes very randomly. Ive seen crashes at the very start, when a lot happens, when very little happens, after 20 minutes, after 45 minutes, after an hour, you name it.
For this run, the best I could do is put the phone on top of a bag of ice, and just hope for no more than 2 crashes. I still got 1 crash at 55:10, which once again proves my point about random crashes. But at least for this crash, Im honestly satisfied with the outcome. The crash was like 10 seconds after a checkpoint, there were no fights, there was no sign of danger, and its fine all around. If anything, I was a little bit disoriented after getting back in the game, so I lost time, if anything.
Because of that one crash, I think the run is most likely invalidated, but theres also no way around it unless I play RE8 on a 2TB iPhone 17 Pro Max that costs $2000, while also likely needing to be inside a freezer for over an hour, just to MAYBE avoid a crash. But Im not doing that. Sorry for being selfish.
Other than rambling about how Apple sucks, and getting one crash was unfortunate, the speedrun was somewhat mediocre. I was taught the run by my friend who does the same category, and just kinda winged it for about a week. So huge shoutout to Ari for the help!
Overall, Im just glad to have a sub 1;40, and thats where Ill leave it at.
UPDATE:
After like a week of waiting for verification (which is weird, since the mods usually verify runs within like a day or 2), the run finally got accepted, but it was put under XboxOneX when it was clearly an iPhone run. Id say theres a difference between the 2, but who am I to judge.
Too bad they didnt really lay out any rules for IOS, because there is quite a lot of variety in how the game functions.")

I was trying to do a full game run, and I accidently had the most godly RNG ever known to be had!!!!!
Luckily, the full game and IL version of Jeffs chapter are the same, so this means I beat my previous world record by a whole 4 seconds!!!!!!!!!")

HUGE shoutout to the user p00bix who suddenly came into my comments on my old PB, and helped save ~16 seconds on my previous WR!
Someone with what seems to be very little to no speedrun knowledge found a way to completely remove the need for Sexy Stream 2, which also means I didnt have to do sex (which is the longest animation in the game) while also saving a full day as well!
With better execution, this can definitely go down to sub 4;40, but Im fine with just having a sub 5 run!

Day 2 this game being released, and Ive come to understand most of the mechanics of this game.
At the time, there was no leaderboard for the game, so I made it up and changed it to a different way than my last run. The newer timing was: Time started on the fade opening of the game starting, and ended on the first frame the van of nerds is destroyed (giving a time of 6:45.73).
Now that there is an official leaderboard on speedrun.com, the new timing method is as follows:
Time starts on starting the game on the title screen (pressing X), and ends when the STAGE CLEAR screen disappears on stage 3 (giving a new time of 6:55.53 (which is also the lamest timing method, since noticing when someone presses X is insanely ambiguous)).")

This run sucks lol. I think I messed up my splits, so I was further in the red than I think I shouldve been. I knew I was still behind, but I was sure I could bring it back for at least a really tiny PB in Banaspati% (the category that actually matters). Unfortunately, I couldnt do as well as I thought, and I was behind at the end.
Since I was already at the end, I thought that I might as well have just wrapped it up with a Dream% run. And I beat the WR by ~5:30.
There are some slightly newer strategies here, and theres also new strategies that already exists, but I didnt go for them since some arent fully figured out just yet.
But whatever. WR is WR. Hopefully this is now considered a competitive category, and not just some stupid meme run.
