In this video I play around in Point-E, which is a new AI tool to generate a 3D model with a few text prompts!
Released by OpenAI (the same group that released Chat GPT), Point E takes your text prompts and pulls them from a database to generate a point cloud shape. This in turn becomes a mesh that can be exported as a 3d object.
CHAPTERS
0:00 Intro
1:20 Can it draw a cube?
2:06 Adjusting the point density
2:59 It's not perfect
3:34 Changing the numbers
4:39 Hug e demo
I learned about it this morning in a Tweet, and started playing with it tonight. I'll update this as I learn more about how to manipulate the text controls for this AI.
I can see many educational applications for this. Students can apply text to this to explain their thinking for geometry. They can also quickly manipulate a shape without trying to manipulate a cumbersome CAD file. for those with learning differences, text interfaces like this can offer accessibility to CAD not possible before.
