FRANKFORT -- Five miles north of Frankfort, in Benzie County, is Point Betsie Lighthouse. Built in 1858, the lighthouse's 37-foot-tall tower rises 52 feet above Lake Michigan. The lighthouse still serves as an active navigational aid for vessels traveling the Manitou Passage.
In 2004, the lighthouse's ownership was transferred to Benzie County and operated by Friends of Point Betsie Lighthouse.
It is currently open daily, except Tuesdays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be closed on Wednesdays from May 17 to 31 and then from Aug. 31 to Oct. 12. Admission into the lighthouse is $5 for adults, $2 for children ages 6-11 and free for younger children. Admission into the structure includes a self-guided tour of the keeper's residence and access to the tower. Visit pointbetsie.org for more information.
