Musician Beth Silver plays a selection of Jewish music stemming from the Ashkenazi tradition. In her exclusive Pocket Performance for the #MuseumWithoutWalls, she performs klezmer music not on the fiddle, which is more traditional for the genre, but rather on the cello. This innovative playing style was cultivated on a month-long mentorship in Brooklyn with klezmer violinist Jake Shulman-Ment — an exploration generously made possible by the Canada Council of the Arts.

Production note: This video was filmed in Fall 2020 before the introduction of new provincial COVID-19 orders requiring museums in Toronto to close their doors temporarily. Enhanced health and safety measures were in place to protect the featured artists and speakers, the production crew, and other Museum visitors and staff.

Pocket Performances are presented by TD Bank Group.
