Recent Works by Master Fernando Carballo, In the Pandemic
The new inks by Fernando Carballo (1941), which number more than thirty, summarize his work in 2020, a strange year of introspective gazes.
Constructed with a subtle but dense pattern of black ink, the artist proposes a world all his own, populated by characters with large faces, deep gazes and huge hands; characters that interact with other similes that at the same time share space with the most diverse pets, or personify divine messengers. They talk statically in a space absent from all interaction, where the multiplicity of meanings proliferates. Fernando, through his wonderful drawings, shares with us his concerns and hopes during this prolonged confinement through a world absent of color, or of a very contained color, allowing us to recreate this strange journey of 2020.
His masterful drawings and his characters converse with each other, or with their children or their pets and, in many cases, interact with us, the public, through questions posed within their deep gaze. They ask about anxieties, fears, loves and small triumphs throughout this forced confinement.
With that unique and particular way to sublimate this atmosphere of pandemic that Carballo has, to show us this unusual situation, he allows us to contemplate and to be able to converse with his exquisite characters, close to us in some cases, and in others, transfigured into ghosts of a time.

Las nuevas tintas de Fernando Carballo (1941), que suman más de una treintena, resumen su quehacer en este 2020, año extraño y de miradas introspectivas.
Construidas con sutil pero densa trama de tinta negra, el artista plantea un mundo todo suyo, poblado de personajes de grandes rostros, miradas profundas y de enormes manos; personajes que interactúan con otros símiles que a la vez comparten espacio con las más diversas mascotas o personifican mensajeros divinos. Conversan estáticamente en un espacio ausente de toda interacción, donde prolifera la multiplicidad de significados.
Fernando con su maravilloso dibujo nos regala sus inquietudes y esperanzas durante este prolongado confinamiento a través de un mundo ausente de color o de un color muy contenido, que nos permite recrear este extraño periplo del 2020.
Su dibujo magistral y sus personajes conversan entre sí, o con sus niños o sus mascotas y, en muchos casos, interactúan con nosotros, el público, a través de preguntas planteadas en su profunda mirada. Preguntan por ansias, por miedos, por amores y por pequeños triunfos a lo largo de este confinamiento forzoso.
Con esa única y particular forma de sublimar este ambiente de pandemia que tiene Carballo, de mostrarnos esta situación inusual, nos permite contemplar y poder conversar con sus exquisitos personajes, próximos a nosotros en unos casos, y en otros, transfigurados en fantasmas de una época.
