Mango Power's new plug-in solar kit with the Smart Gateway is the first zero export system I've tested that reacts fast enough to matter. Zero export (also called anti-backflow) keeps the solar your panels make inside your house so nothing pushes back onto the grid, which removes the single biggest roadblock stopping most people from installing plug-in solar.
I put the gateway in my own breaker panel and then tried to break it. Reaction speed measured with an amp clamp, the gateway losing power mid-production, my Wi-Fi router killed completely, and output throttling down to match a partial load. All real-time testing, including the CT clamp mistake that cost me an hour and the firmware issue that blocked my Wi-Fi setup.
My own array has made 169.62 kWh in under 90 days with afternoon shading. Still the cheapest way to start pushing back on rising rates. And zero export opens it up to a lot more of you.
