Plein Air Acrylic Painting Techniques - learn how to paint a dam with Shirley Peters, en plein air acrylic painting techniques, demonstration and tutorial for beginners or artists of all ages and skills. In this three-part series from Shirley, discover acrylic plain air painting techniques as Shirley demonstrates her unique approach to painting Australian bush and a full dam. In Part 1 and Part 2 we followed along with Shirley’s process as she blocked in her plein air scene, using some beautiful, unexpected colours. Part 3 and the conclusion of this painting shows Shirley expanding on her blocking in techniques by further building up layers, detail and textures of the scene. She demonstrates adding detail to her scene, particularly the trees, and shows tips for creating texture and realism in a scene adding marks and bumps to her trees.

In this acrylic video I’m painting a plein air view from my studio back door. It is a rainy overcast day, and the trees are going wild with the strong wind. But I enjoyed finding colour in the dull light. I hope you like it.
