Weeks after tornadoes ripped through Pleasants County, many residents remain in a holding pattern while individual federal disaster assistance was quickly approved for flooding in Lewis and Upshur counties.
Scars of the July 21 twister are still plainly visible near St. Marys.
Severe weather dropped hundreds of trees, blocking roads and tearing apart property.
Officials confirmed two separate EF-2 tornadoes originated in Washington County, Ohio, and ripped paths stretching more than 12 miles directly into Pleasants County, packing wind speeds of at least 120 mph.
Pleasants County Emergency Services indicated five homes were total losses, 13 had major problems and several others suffered minor damages.
West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey requested a presidential declaration for seven counties dealing with wind and water damage, but so far only two have received individual assistance funds.
