PlantWave is a device that measures changes in a plant’s electrical conductivity and translates it into musical data.
Two electrodes placed on the leaves of a plant detect variations in conductivity and use this wave’s frequency and amplitude to make musical pitches.The pitches can then be sent to other instruments via MIDI or used to control the PlantWave app via Bluetooth which has a lot of nice sound sets already installed.
For this test, I just used the very first preset in their app. I can’t wait to dig into using it with older analog gear as well.
It started raining right after I filmed this and the raindrops plucked off most of the cherry blossom petals. But, the fact that the flowers are only around for about a week is part of what makes them so special.
I planted this tree in our back yard about 10 years ago. My friends said it was a bad idea because caterpillars love them too much, but I’m glad I didn’t listen. There’s something super magical about looking out of your window and seeing so much pink in the sky - even if it is only for a short time.
