For planting tomatoes in a trench, or sideways, this is a helpful tip. It was suggested by someone who commented on one of my videos last year (alan30189). When laying tomato plants in a trench, it's not easy to get the tip of the plant up off the ground. However, as was suggested, if you lay the plant on it's side for a day or two prior to planting, it will go ahead and turn up. This will create a 90 degree bend in the stem, allowing you to then put the plant into a trench with no fear of breaking the stem or having the leaves laying on the ground. This tip worked out very well.
