Things of interest:

Could not get ribbon cable out, which connects top circuit board to plastic top housing with electronics. Propped board up and worked around this.

Protective solder blob must be removed, or cd player will not work. I let the solder iron heat up, then I shut the iron off and used the remaining heat to remove the blob. The blob was removed after the optical pickup was in place; that way I tried to minimize the electrostatic damage I could do to the laser while handling it.

Pictures should be made every step of the way.

Tray would not close correctly when everything was done. L-shaped clear plastic piece behind CD mechanism was in the way just by a little bit. The tray was hitting against this when it retracted.

Keep the screws and little black plastic parts in a safe place; mine reappeared right before I put the top on. On the other hand, if you do have a screw or screws left over, you can be proud because you have followed the "golden" rule of electronics: which is, always forget to put a screw or screws back in.
