Irelandscapes | Pike Fishing at Lough Cowey - (N Irish Angling Interview with Scenery) @Irelandscapes | Uploaded July 2022 | Updated October 2024, 6 hours ago.
A stop over on the way to Portaferry Village on the Ards Peninsula. Lough Cowey is a freshwater lake formed between the egg shaped hills of County Down known as 'Drumlins'. The land is exceptionally fertile and these Drumlins form the canvas for a multitude of colourful crops from vegetables to grains to seed oils.
I fished Lough Cowey as a boy decades ago. We'd catch an early morning bus from Belfast to Portaferry and the driver would always stop especially to let us off at the lake. We thought it was the greatest adventure ever - fishing and making shelters and cooking our own food amongst the long reeds that surround the water. Then, tired, we'd catch the last bus home as dark approached and trudge home in our soggy Wellington boots with stories of big Pike. It's good to see Cowey looking so well these days and anglers who take such care with it. Thanks for the chat guys and hopefully see you there later in the Summer.
