The 5 Pillars of literacy are important skills for students to learn in order to be proficient in reading. When I learned the 5 pillars, I discovered that phonics and phonemic awareness (2 of the pillars) do not mean the same thing. In this video, I break down the difference between phonics and phonemic awareness (different from phonological awareness).
