Phineas and Ferb Season 5 is doing something that I can only describe as “unhinged.” In the decade it’s been off the air, serialized cartoons with ongoing stories took over in popularity. Even Dan and Swampy threw their hats into the ring through both Milo Murphy’s Law and Hamster & Gretel.
However, it seems like those shows didn’t quench their thirst to tell stories that span multiple episodes, as the new Phineas and Ferb has also been dabbling in serialization, crafting a rather dark storyline that’s actually getting its story beats from the original run of the show. You might ask yourself - what would an arc in Phineas and Ferb even look like? Would it involve the boys finally getting busted? Perry and Doof embarking on a cosmic journey that puts the fate of the world on the line? Carl finally getting paid a living wage? Mmm, nope! It’s about a body mold of Candace coming to life and bodysnatching. How did we end up in a situation where Jeremy’s getting eaten by a Spirit Halloween costume of his girlfriend?
