Continuing with our 2024 investigations and documentation of the petroglyphs of the Satipo region of the Peruvian Amazon - Documentary Episode PART 2 - Petroglyphs of Huanacaure + La Resistencia Waterfall. The Satipo Valley contains the largest number of petroglyphs in the Peruvian Amazon..
The figures glow, fade, come back, no one really understands them, but they persevere for millennia. Those who created the petroglyphs of Huanacaure 3,500 years ago did not try to leave a message for posterity or give the keys to a secret map that might lead to a secret city, like those of Pusharo, in Madre de Dios, which some deluded researchers have believed would be the map to get to the lost city of Inca gold, Paititi.
The truth is that the ancient artists who designed these astral figures, animals, plants and zoomorphic beings in Huanacaure portrayed their cosmology of there own time and culture, it's meaning lost in the ancient past. Many specialists, including Julio C. Tello and the American Donald Lathrap, maintain that the culture which produced these petroglyphs originated in the Amazon however their true identity is lost in time, an an ancient unknown culture that once lived in the Amazon Rainforest.

*The petroglyphs in the Satipo region require an urgent conservation program. This rock has undergone much destruction including; chalking, possible bleaching and has been dynamited on 2 occasions by people who were ignorant enough to believe that gold or treasures are located beneath it.

- La Resistencia Falls is a natural resource located in the district and province of Satipo, in the Junín region. The falls are located on private property that belonged to the Reyes family. It is known by the name of La Resistencia Falls, a set of four waterfalls, whose highest height is recorded at 22 meters, and where the lowest is 8 meters. This tourist resource is the closest natural attraction to the city of Satipo.
