Ordinary Heroes: Noted Canadian music writer Peter Hum shares his talent as a pianist on this new album of 10 original jazz compositions. Here, Hum combines his love of music with powerful social commentary, building tunes around the themes of justice, truth and activism, and sparking the imaginations of listeners. Rendered by an all-star band, these pieces are meant to inspire through a parallel language, and they access a different pathway to our conscience, to sound a rallying cry. All in all, Ordinary Heroes is a refreshing and seldom heard mode of activism... and great music in its own right.
The piece Cassandra takes its name from the figure in Greek mythology who was cursed to utter prophecies that were true but which no one believed. It's a shout-out to those who have warned all too correctly about the ills the future holds.
