Persecution is the main threat that Persian leopards face in the Middle East, either themselves or their main prey such as bezoar goat, urial sheep or different deer species. The main reason for direct persecution of leopards is their occasional engagement in conflict with rural people living alongside. In cases of severe conflict, relation by local people might happen. Mohammad Farhadinia is working to protect Persian leopards in Iran by enhancing law enforcement to tackle poaching, tracking leopards to understand their ecological needs, and by raising awareness with local herders and hunters.
