![Mum’s worst nightmare was dementia. Now she’s living it #shorts #dementia #euthanasia
When Nias mum Moira was diagnosed with dementia, it was her “number one fear” – as Moira had watched her own mother live with the disease.
“Mum and Dad wrote a letter where [Moira] declared that if she was not able to recognise the family, that she would want to be euthanised.”
Nia hasn’t been able to honour that wish, as dementia alone does not qualify as a condition for voluntary assisted dying in Australia.
Dementia is now Australias biggest killer. To read more about how patients, carers and the governments support systems are managing this public health crisis, tap link in bio.
Or watch Insight episode Dealing with Dementia Tuesday 2 June at 8.30PM on SBS or SBS On Demand.

![I didn’t know I had a twin until I was nearly 50 #twin #adoption #operationbabylift
Chantal was one of thousands of babies airlifted out of Saigon in 1975 as the city was falling during the Vietnam War. She was then adopted by a family in Australia.
Years later, Chantal had her DNA tested in the hopes of finding her birth mother.
She hasn’t been able to find her yet. However, in the search, Chantal made an extraordinary discovery: she has a twin brother who lives in the same country.
“[I’m feeling] a lot of emotions because I’m searching for answers now, how we got separated … We should have grown up together. We should have bonded, kicked each other up the bum, you know, all those things.”
To read more about the discoveries and milestones Australians are reaching as they approach 50 years old, watch Insight episode Turning 50 on SBS On Demand. I didn’t know I had a twin until I was nearly 50 #twin #adoption #operationbabylift](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ybVObOhKEY0/mqdefault.jpg)
