Spatial aliasing is seen in this model of the "wavemachine" which was made by Ernst Mach, circa 1867, an Austrian physicist and philosopher.

The model seen here is based on a design from Harvard Natural Sciences Lecture Demonstrations. Tuning of the pendulums was tricky and time consuming and the result is less than perfect. Nevertheless it was fun to construct and watch the wave patterns.
