[NOTE: the yellow Lamy that I talked about which was discolored was NOT mine ... it was someone who wrote about their experiences on Reddit. ALSO ... lol I realized the TWSBI Ecos were "upside down" on purpose .... to avoid the zipper when I pull them out ... so ... yeah ... lol]
This video is a show and tell of all my zipper pen cases which house all my fountain pens. The video was inspired by viewer/pen friend ttownreader who asked: "I heard you mention that you keep your pens in pen cases, can you do a video about those sometime? I'm really struggling with making sure I pick the right storage. I saw one video where the Pentuber said the material in the case discolored her pens."
I'm super appreciative of this question because it resulted in me learning a LOT about safe and harmful materials used in making pen cases.
I discuss what I like and don't like about each of my cases and talk about any problems I have had with them (not many). At the end, I talk about the research I did about materials that can damage our pens and which materials ARE recommended.
Please do your own research specific to the types of pens you are going to store. I had no idea there were many materials which could harm pens. Really, I'm just beginning to learn and navigate the subject.
I went into detail in the video but generally speaking the recommended materials are: vegetable-tanned leather, high quality fabrics like canvas, wool, felt or microsuede, wooden boxes, soft fabric liners to prevent scratching or transfer of chemicals.
I use 3 types of storage:
1. Zipper cases for pens not currently inked - stored like books on my shelf
2. Trays and pen boxes for keeping inked pens at my finger tips on my pen and library desks.
3. To go cases and sleeves that I use when I'm taking fountain pens with me around the house, park, and outings.
I will be doing (in the fairly near future) videos about my pen trays and boxes and the "to go" cases as part of this 3 part series.
