Houses can produce more energy than they consume, even in Michigan's cold cloudy winter climate. Superinsulation and air-tight construction means most heating is supplied by solar gain & internal heat gains, with so little supplemental heat required that it could be supplied with a hair blow dryer. She has coached students who won Michigan's Zero Energy Home Competitions, as well as a 2007 Solar Decathlon team.
