Aquinas College has been on an intentional sustainability journey for 8 years. During that time, sustainability has been incorporated into the college's governance structure, campus activities, strategic planning, and the daily lives of all campus community members. Several success stories will be shared in the areas of transportation, waste, energy, and curriculum, with a specific focus on the college's zero waste initiative. The stories will be shared using the lens of "culture change." How do you transform a culture to engage campus constituents in "second order" sustainability efforts, and empower people to change behaviors?
Jessica Eimer graduated Summa Cum Laude from Aquinas College in December 2005 with a B.S. in Sustainable Business, Environmental Studies and Geography. In January 2006, Jessica was hired as the Program Director for the Center for Sustainability at Aquinas College (C4S) and has since been promoted to Director of Sustainability. She is active in Aquinas' campus sustainability initiative by playing a lead role in organizing and managing student involvement, overseeing the college's sustainability metrics, and supporting the "internal redesign for sustainability" process.
Jessica also organizes conferences and special events on campus, continues to promote the sustainable business program and the Center for Sustainability in the community, maintains multiple web sites including the C4S site, and supervises student involvement in the Center. Finally, she represents the Center for Sustainability in various community initiatives, such as Local First and the Community Sustainability Partnership.
