Clefable shines in this battle. I guess the opponent didnt remember about Magic Guard preventing poison damage. That is why burning/poisoning Clefable will do nothing other than give Clefable a free turn and immunity to other status problems. By the way, Magic Guard prevents life orb damage which is why Clefable never got life orb damage.
