Every so often I come back to Joe Hisaishi’s music for Laputa and Nausicaa, which is really comforting to me as I’ve listened to those soundtracks for quite some time now.

I’ve always played around with this melody, which is originally scored for trumpet and guitar. In my recent focus on Irish trad, I have sometimes found myself accidentally making things into jigs, and so that’s what this piece becomes in the second half. It doesn’t sound very Irish to me regardless of how I try to feel the melody - still feels stately and baroque as the original melody does, but I do like playing around with it as though it could be a dance tune.
