In this video, I go to Paul John Distillery, located in the tropical paradise of Goa, India. We’re exploring one of their most prestigious releases: Paul John Mithuna, the second expression in their acclaimed Zodiac Series.
Named after the Indian counterpart of the zodiac sign Gemini, Mithuna is crafted to represent Dual Character. It is an unpeated, non chill-filtered single malt bottled at 58% ABV, designed to showcase the perfect balance of light and dark.
Mithuna is first matured in American virgin oak casks, which imparts those intense, dry tannins and spicy oak notes. It then undergoes a secondary finishing in first fill ex bourbon barrels, smoothing out the edges with sweeter notes. Because it ages in Goa’s hot and humid tropical climate, the interaction with the wood is accelerated, resulting in a depth of flavor that usually takes much longer to achieve in colder climates.
