Greek mythology character Patroclus participated in the Trojan War and is best known for his close friendship with Achilles, a legendary Greek hero. Because of him and what he did, he would eventually perish after following Achilles to Troy.
The most well-known version of Patroclus' tale can be found in Homer's (c. 750 BCE) Iliad, one of history's most epic tales and a recounting of the historic Trojan War. He is shown to be a good and loyal man who is appreciated by Achilles and by his fellow soldiers.
