Neighbours, Characters and Nicknames
Here is 3 minutes from a 60 minute interview I did last week with Pat ‘Pudgie’ Hyland from The Shannon in Enniscorthy, great insight into a tight knitted community as you hear how nearly every one of the men had nicknames, you also get a great insight into the respect they had for each other and Pat speaks so highly of a man called Johnny Dobbs, a man who was known as a ‘Man for all Seasons’, ie he made a few bob based on the calendar year and what was on the go, fishing, buying blackberries, killing turkeys etc, I love at the end how he describes a neighbour of his, a hard working man who was all dressed up for a wedding and how he was “done up like a new penny”, have a listen and more of this to come.
