I walked into an Asian supermarket looking for wonton wrappers and walked out questioning how energy drinks are made.
This “passion fruit” Red Bull didn’t contain any passion fruit at all — not even a whisper of it on the label. Instead it was loaded with ginseng, ginger, taurine and green tea extract, and somehow still smelled like a fruit salad doing laps around my nose.
And the taste? Weirdly spot-on. Sweet, sharp, tropical… even though the ingredients read like someone spilled alphabet soup into a chemistry set for some of the E numbers and things that weren't obvious.
I’d probably drink it again over normal Red Bull, but sleeping afterwards? Not a chance. Zero sugar apparently… although my taste buds remain unconvinced.
Trying to understand how something tastes like passion fruit without having any in it made me realise how many flavours in our lives are just clever illusions.
