Whilst Yonekura didn't seemingly have many fights going into this World Flyweight title bout (his record may be incomplete, or he may have been pushed fast as some Asian fighters are) he had top class experience, having been in there with Sado Yaoita (who owned a win over Perez) and Perez himself in a non-title 10 round bout 6 months prior to this. He went on to mix at the very highest level at bantamweight, having a few bouts with Filipino dangerman Leo Espinosa and going the full 15 with the top class bantamweight champ Joe Becerra.
Perez, past his best here, would go on to avenge his defeat to Yaoit before losing his title to Pone Gingpet. This is one of his last bouts as champion, and he remains one of the greatest in the 112lb division.
