Parshas Matos: The Upside Down Water Bottle Experiment @IncredibleScience

In this week’s Parshas Matos experiment, we fill a glass bottle to the top, cover the opening with one tiny piece of toilet paper, and flip it. The water stays in. Nothing visible is holding it, but something invisible is: air pressure, pushing up on that paper with about 14 pounds of force on every square inch.

And that’s exactly what Parshas Matos teaches about words. When you make a promise, nothing looks different, but the Torah says your words just created something real and binding. Invisible doesn’t mean weak.

Try it yourself: fill a bottle all the way, no air gap, press one square of toilet paper over the opening, flat hand, flip it fast. Do it over a sink, it takes a few tries!

$Parshas Re’eh: This Arrow Is Lying To You An arrow points one way. Put a glass of water in front of it, and suddenly it points the other way. Same arrow. Same room. Totally different answer. And the only way to tell them apart is to stop, look again, and really see clearly. TRY IT AT HOME All you need is a piece of paper, a marker, and a clear glass of water. 1. Draw a bold arrow pointing left 2. Fill the glass with water and set it a few inches in front of the paper 3. Look through the glass and slowly slide the paper backward 4. Watch the arrow flip The water acts like a lens. It bends the light passing through it, and the rays cross, so the image reverses left to right. Bonus: turn the arrow to point up instead.
